Mergers, acquisitions, globalisation and demands for cutting-edge consumer and business applications have created an explosion in most companies’ technology infrastructures. The number of servers has doubled over the past five years; approximately 25,000 new network devices are deployed daily; and the number of terabytes of storage is doubling each year.

CIOs want to better manage their complex infrastructures, while keeping operating expenses under control, complying with corporate policies and addressing regulatory requirements. One way to meet these challenges is through automation.

Improve business service delivery

Technology organisations have traditionally relied on costly manual processes and multiple tools to manage their data centres. By automating operational tasks (such as deploying a Windows® patch across hundreds of machines), they can implement changes and fix problems quickly; gain a single view of their entire business services; reduce unplanned outages, unfulfilled service level agreements and customer dissatisfaction; and create a single plan of record via consolidated reporting and consistent management workflows.

Automate end-to-end processes

Business service automation (BSA) solutions automate end-to-end processes throughout your data centre, so your organisation can:

  • Increase visibility – View all virtual and physical elements in your infrastructure, helping to break down operational silos, improve troubleshooting and change automation. Discover and record hardware, software and configuration data; map interdependencies across multiple network, server and storage types; view current server and storage capacity.
  • Automate change management – Reduce management costs, increase business agility and improve service availability. Make informed decisions about deploying changes via automated impact analysis and coordinate execution of changes.
  • Improve quality of service – Improve incident resolution, reduce escalations and maintain audit trails. Automate routine maintenance tasks, sorting, troubleshooting and repair of incidents and alerts, to enforce ITIL compliance.
  • Address audit compliance issues – Reduce risk of non-compliance and security breaches, minimise production outages and reduce labour costs. Create automated process workflows and enforce standardised processes. Centralise all reporting, security updates and compliance policy checks and content.
  • Increase business agility – Speed time to market, improve competitiveness, and add new services reliably and quickly.

Customer case study

A large technology company needed to automate manual processes to ensure application compliance for its servers, eliminate the manual process used to track the configuration of its technology environment, and find a solution allowing it to manage server operations consistently.

It deployed HP server automation software on more than 900 servers in one month, automating processes such as change and release operations, managing all server configurations and auditing internal compliance policies. HP network automation software allowed the company to automate, configure and manage over 400 wide-area network switches.

The company gained comprehensive, automated visibility and operations control of its servers and network devices, and was able cost-effectively to manage the growth of its technology environment.

Focus on business innovation

Managing mission-critical business services can be costly and labour intensive. Through business service automation, your organisation can reduce costs, improve service quality, enforce compliance initiatives and refocus its efforts on business innovation.
