The “racked and stacked” approach to servers and storage is also forcing a change in thinking in terms of power. While blade systems enable higher densities of servers to be concentrated in a smaller space, it means IT departments must deal with increasing electrical demands.

As a result, more power needs to be delivered more efficiently and effectively to the racks. In addition, increased power protection is also demanded to protect in event of power failure and to limit the effects of spikes.

A new Three-Phase Power product family provides a solution by transporting three-phase power directly to the IT racks and extends the range of the HP UPS offering significantly.

More power where you need it

The new UPS rack modules (8 and 12 kVA/kW) install into standard racks and are ideal for environments where uptime is critical and where losing data can be costly. The HP R12000/3 and R8000/3 UPS modules, used in association with the HP Rack PDUs, need less wiring to deliver power to the IT load than traditional power distribution approaches.

The modules include online on demand technology, patented wireless paralleling architecture, Enhanced Battery Management and hot swappable electronics and battery modules to improve the total cost of ownership and provide a rapid meant time to repair (MTTR).

A major innovation in the UPS modules is the use of Online on Demand hybrid technology that combines the efficiency of a line-interactive UPS with the stability of a double-conversion online UPS. This provides significant saving over Online Double Conversion UPS as it only switches over when needed.

Internal batteries provide sufficient runtime to end systems in an orderly fashion. More runtime is available with Extended Runtime Modules (ERM).

Zoned Rack UPS – scalable to 60 kW

The UPS modules can be used for stand-alone applications. A factory preconfigured 42U UPS rack version with 36 kVA meets greater application needs, such as supporting an entire rack row.

Three 12 kW modules module are standard, but up to six modules can be installed and linked using the paralleling architecture to give 60 kVA/kW (with N+1 redundancy) in one 42U enclosure.

No extra service charge

HP offers a warranty of three years on parts and one year for labour and on-site. In addition, as part of its HP ProLiant Server Care Pack, HP provides free integrated support based on ProLiant Care Pack for the HP UPS rack modules (R8000/3 and R12000/3).
