In order to meet the privacy needs of users, we first must understand them.
As part of the Trustguide project, researchers conducted focus groups with UK citizens, students, farmers and SME operators to understand their views and needs. The research team also collaborated with industry and government representatives.
As a result, this report accurately identifies how privacy is perceived by the community, and how trust can be earned by organisations.
Trustguide is a comprehensive research document that outlines public perceptions on a broad range of issues including:
Authentication and identification technologies
Identity management, theft, privacy and fraud
Privacy, confidentiality and security of health information
Public surveillance
Data privacy and security
E-government and public sector IT
The report also provides guidelines for those engaged in researching, developing or delivering trusted ICT systems.
The Trustguide project is a joint venture between HP and British Telecom commissioned by the British department of Trade and Industry. It is a continuation of the dialogue into building a safer cyber world that was started by Foresight Cyber Trust and Crime Prevention.
In 2007, HP Labs’ Stephen Crane, one of the authors of Trustguide, visited Australian to discuss emerging issues in IT privacy and security.
